Installation
Railcut is distributed as a .zxp file — a standard CEP extension package for Adobe applications.
Step 1 — Get the ZXP
Section titled “Step 1 — Get the ZXP”Download the latest Railcut .zxp file from your Lemon Squeezy account. You’ll find the latest .zxp and your license key there.
Step 2 — Install the ZXP
Section titled “Step 2 — Install the ZXP”ZXP files can’t be opened by double-clicking. You need an installer utility.
Option A: AeScripts ZXP/UXP Installer (recommended)
Section titled “Option A: AeScripts ZXP/UXP Installer (recommended)”ZXP/UXP Installer from aescripts.com is a free, widely-used installer that handles both ZXP and UXP extensions. Download and install it, then drag your .zxp onto the app window or open it through the file menu.
Option B: ZXPInstaller
Section titled “Option B: ZXPInstaller”ZXPInstaller is another free option. Download it, then drag and drop your .zxp file onto the app window to install.
Step 3 — Open the panel in After Effects
Section titled “Step 3 — Open the panel in After Effects”- Launch After Effects (restart it if it was already open)
- Go to Window → Extensions → Railcut
The Railcut panel will open. Dock it to the bottom of the workspace to give you a similar layout to a NLE.
Step 4 — Activate your license
Section titled “Step 4 — Activate your license”Railcut requires a valid license to use. On first launch, Railcut will prompt you to paste your license key. Enter it and click Activate — Railcut checks the key online and activates this device. Your license can be active on any two machines at once.
Moving between machines
Section titled “Moving between machines”Each license allows a 2 active devices at once. To free up a slot from your current machine before moving to a new one:
- Open Settings → License
- Click Deactivate This Device
- Confirm the deactivation
After deactivation, your license key is available to activate on another machine. You can also deactivate licenses in your Lemon Squeezy account.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”Railcut doesn’t appear in Window → Extensions
Section titled “Railcut doesn’t appear in Window → Extensions”Close After Effects completely, reinstall the ZXP, then relaunch AE. Make sure the installer reported success before relaunching.
Activation fails with a network error
Section titled “Activation fails with a network error”Make sure you have an internet connection. If you’re still having trouble, email support@jakeinmotion.com
License says “Expired” or “Grace Period”
Section titled “License says “Expired” or “Grace Period””Click Re-check License in the License tab. If the issue persists, contact support at railcut.com.
